Installing Mail Manager per-user
Who is this article for?
IT Administrators performing an installation of the system.
Local Admin permissions are required.
The per-user Mail Manager is installed directly on the user PC. This article outlines the steps to perform a standard single user installation (which can be used either as a licensed version or as a 15-day free trial), and how to create a deployment package which can be used to install Mail Manager on many systems.
Using a shared machine or virtual environment?
We have a separate set of instructions for installing Mail Manager per machine.
1. Existing customer - Multiple user installation
To create an installation package for multiple users:
- Create a new Shared Configuration Folder.
This folder will need to be shared, so all users need to have read access to the folder and its contents (How to Setup a Shared Configuration Folder). - Copy the URL/path to your clipboard for later in the process.
- Download the Mail Manager installation files.
- Run the setup file.
- Select Multi-User Deployment.
- Determine your preferred method of deployment:
- Self Service - Provides an .exe installer to the user so they can install Mail Manager.
- Multi-User Deployment - Creates a pre-configured install package that can be deployed via automated tools (such as Group Policy, SCCM, Intune, etc.). This will create an MSI.
- Logon Script - Creates a pre-configured install package that can be executed by a logon script. The package will download, install, and configure Mail Manager with license information.
- Enter your License ID and Password.
- Paste the URL/path from your clipboard.
Note: If you host the Shared Configuration Folder in SharePoint or Viewpoint, you will need to add an additional prefix to the folder path with the protocol followed by ":".
For example: Sharepoint:https://mailmanager.sharepoint.com/sites/MailManager/Shared%20Documents/Mail%20Manager%20Config
- Enter the target folder where the install files will be created.
- Click Next.
- Accept the terms.
Once you have completed this process, you will have an installation package that you can use to install Mail Manager for multiple users using your deployment tool of choice. Once deployed, the MSI package will install Mail Manager at the next windows logon event.
Unsure what your Shared Configuration path is?
The path to the folder entered above is stored in Mail Manager and in the Windows registry, e.g.In Mail Manager preferences at: Mail Manager > Tools > User Preferences > Shared Configuration Folder.
Windows 64-Bit registry:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Oasys\Mail Manager].
So Master Config Folder would be SharePoint:https://mailmanager.sharepoint.com/sites/MailManager Config/... .
Need help deploying the package?
Advanced Installer has a great tutorial for deploying an MSI through GPO.
2. Trial License - Single user installation
To perform a single user installation:
- Download the Mail Manager installation files on the upgrade page., selecting the per user option.
- Run the file.
- Select Single User - Free Trial.
- Launch Outlook.
- Continue with a free trial or enter your key.
You should now see the Mail Manager ribbon buttons in Outlook.
Need to activate your license?
Mail Manager gives you a 15-day free trial, after which you will need to activate Mail Manager if you want to continue using it.
