Who is this article for?
Admins who need to manage user preferences.

1. File location
The active AdminEmailFiling.cfg is always read from the Shared Configuration folder.
A sample AdminEmailFiling.cfg file can be found in the Mail Manager installation folder, by default these are:

It is recommended that the Shared Configuration Folder and its contents are only editable by administrators of Mail Manager. General user will need read access to the folder and contents
2. When is it read?
If available, Mail Manager frequently checks the admin preferences (AdminEmailFiling.cfg) for recent changes i.e. the value of the setting called: AdminUpdateDateTime. Only if the value is greater than the value in the client's EmailFiling.cfg are the settings prefixed with a # changed.
Changes to the client users preferences (EmailFiling.cfg) will occur within a few minutes.
3. How to edit
The AdminEmailFiling.cfg can be edited via the Admin Preferences UI or using Notepad.
To open the Admin Preferences UI first open the User Preferences UI e.g. Tools > User Preferences, then using the keyboard select Crtl+Shift+E, this will open the Admin Preferences UI
If you need to manually edit the AdminEmailFiling.cfg ensure you are using a plain text editor, like Notepad. Do not use Microsoft Word (or similar).
To ensure updates are applied, the value of "AdminUpdateDateTime" must be incremented either manually by 1, or by saving the changes via the Admin Preferences UI.

The following prefixes can be manually applied to settings:
| Prefix | Description |
|---|---|
| # | Updates EmailFiling.cfg based on the value of AdminUpdateDateTime |
| * | Lock setting, users prevented changing the setting in the User Preferences UI. |
Important Note: When editing the file, ensure you are using a plain text editor, like Notepad. Do not use Microsoft Word (or similar).
