Who is this article for?
Users who:
- are experiencing compatibility issues with Microsoft Office version 2601;
- use ARM-based Windows devices powered by Snapdragon processors, such as Surface Pro ARM models;
- users want to use Mail Manager Desktop with New Outlook. This preview release version ensures that existing Mail Manager Windows users can transition to New Outlook while maintaining familiar filing workflows, preserving key benefits from Classic Outlook such as searching using the Prompt and the Desktop Search.
No elevated permissions are required.
Note: The Mail Manager Desktop with New Outlook capability is currently in preview mode, and remains under active development. It is therefore not recommended to be widely deployed in your organisation. This release has undergone extensive testing; however, if you encounter any issues or unexpected behaviour, please reach out to us for support.
If you were an early adopter of the prior preview mode release of Mail Manager for New Outlook, please reach out to your Account Manager to upgrade to this version as there are important uninstallation and re-installation steps to consider.
1. New Feature
Support for New Outlook
- This preview mode release introduces full compatibility with New Outlook, Microsoft's modern email client. Mail Manager has evolved to support both Classic Outlook and New Outlook, providing flexibility as organizations transition to Microsoft's updated platform.
- This release ensures that existing Mail Manager Windows users can transition to New Outlook while maintaining familiar filing workflows. Key capabilities from Classic Outlook are preserved, including searching using the Prompt and the Desktop Search functionality, so users can continue working efficiently without disruption.
- Filing workflows have been optimized for New Outlook's architecture while maintaining the intuitive experience Mail Manager users expect. Whether you're filing single messages or managing multiple emails, Mail Manager delivers consistent performance across both Classic and New Outlook environments. For technical setup and configuration details, please refer to our IT Guide to ensure proper deployment in your environment. Note: Additional enhancements for New Outlook support are planned for future releases, further expanding capabilities and refining the user experience.
Support for ARM-based Processors
- This feature introduces compatibility with ARM-based processors, including the latest Microsoft Surface Pro 11th edition which uses a Snapdragon chip with ARM architechure.
- As ARM-based devices become increasingly prevalent in modern computing environments, this enhancement ensures Mail Manager operates seamlessly on these platforms without requiring manual workarounds. User with ARM-powered devices, including the Surface Pro Lineup, can now install and run Mali Manager with full functionality.
The Mail Manager shell extension is currently not supported, so the “Copy Mail Manager Link” and “Send Mail Manager Link” options will not appear in File Explorer. If this functionality is important to your organisation, please raise it with your Account Manager so that we can prioritise it appropriately.
2. Fixes
- Compatibility issues with Microsoft Office version 2601 have been resolved. Microsoft releases updates regularly and depending on your IT configuration or automatic update settings, you may receive these updates at different times. A specific build of Office 2601 caused Mail Manager to stop functioning correctly, with symptoms including: no emails indexing (background indexer process would not start), emails failing to file (the filer core process continuously restarting), the Mail Manager system tray icon disappearing, and inability to open the Mail Manager Dashboard. Microsoft has since resolved the underlying issue in a subsequent Office update, and this release of Mail Manager incorporates additional safeguards to ensure compatibility. This update supersedes the temporary quick fix previously announced at https://mailmanager.help.ideagen.com/hc/en-gb/articles/32879904048914-Mail-Manager-will-not-work-with-Office-version-2601-January-2026.
