Mail Manager Links Not Appearing as Hyperlinks in Microsoft Teams
Issue Summary
Users have reported that links generated by Mail Manager (typically file paths) do not appear as clickable hyperlinks when shared in Microsoft Teams.
Root Cause
This behavior is due to a limitation within Microsoft Teams, not Mail Manager. The links in question are file paths (e.g., \\server\folder\file) rather than valid URLs (e.g., https://...), and Teams no longer supports rendering file paths as clickable links.
Expected Behavior in Teams
Microsoft Teams only recognizes and converts links that begin with a valid protocol, such as:
https://http://mailto:
File paths like \\networkshare\folder or file:// are not automatically converted into hyperlinks.
Workaround
To make file paths more accessible in Teams:
- Use the Formatting Options (click the "A" icon below the message box).
- Manually insert the file path as plain text.
- Optionally, instruct users to copy and paste the path into File Explorer.
Next Steps
If hyperlinking file paths is a critical requirement, we recommend:
- Hosting the files in SharePoint or OneDrive, which generate
https://links. - Reaching out to Microsoft Support for clarification on supported link formats and any roadmap changes related to Teams hyperlink handling.
Conclusion
This is not a defect in Mail Manager but a change in how Microsoft Teams handles link formatting. For consistent hyperlink behavior, use web-based storage solutions or consult Microsoft for further guidance.
