The After Filing Setting In Mail Manager
Who is this article for?
Users of Mail Manager Users can choose what happens to their Outlook email after a copy is saved to storage.
Introduction
Everyone uses Outlook differently, for this reason Mail Manager gives you 4 different options to choose in your user preferences that control what happens to an Outlook email once a copy has been filed to your chosen filing location.
For example, we provide options for people who like to get their inbox to zero as well as people who like to drag and drop emails into outlook sub folders to organise them.
1.2. Four different "After Filing" options
The 4 options you have for after filing are listed below, and they look like this is your Mail Manager desktop app.
2. Where to change this setting
You can find this setting at:
Mail Manager > Tools > User Preferences > After Filing.
2.2. Add date and time to the subject without moving it
This conservative Mail Manager setting typically keeps filed emails in your inbox, marked as filed.
When you file an email, it remains in your inbox; if sent, the filed copy appears in your sent items folder.
3. Move to deleted items folder
Filing an email moves the Outlook copy to your deleted items folder, helping to clear your mailbox.
4. Move to filed Items, an inbox sub-folder
This option moves filed emails to a "Filed Items" folder created under your inbox, helping to tidy your inbox.
Sent and filed emails will be stored here instead of in sent items.
5. Move to filed folders, multiple inbox sub-folders
This option is ideal for users who prefer dragging emails into folders.
Filing an email to "Project X" creates a "* Project X" sub-folder under your inbox for the Outlook copy.
Filing to "Project 1234" will create a "* Project 1234" sub-folder similarly.
You’ll have a list of folders under your inbox for each filing location.
Emails can be dragged into these folders for filing.
Note that there is a one-way sync to filing locations every 5 minutes.
Examples of filed folders:
You can convert existing Outlook subfolders to Mail Manager filed folders by right-clicking and selecting "Assign as a Mail Manager filed folder".
The subfolder must be directly under the inbox.
*When using this After Filing option you will also be able to see the Filed Location option appear against any filed emails to see the exact name of the location they were filed to. This will appear when you right-click on a filed email.
