Troubleshooting "Unhandled exception occurred in ItemSend event" error
Who is this article for?
Users encountering the error "Unhandled exception occured in ItemSend event".
Local Admin permissions are required for some steps.
This article shows you how to easily resolve the error.
1. Issue
When using Mail Manager, you may see the error: "Unhandled exception occurred in ItemSend event".
This could indicate a need to reinstall the Microsoft .NET framework, a partial Outlook corruption, a Mail Manager process (like the filer core) failing to run, or that the email must be saved and reopened before sending.
Mail Manager copies sent emails from Outlook's Sent Items folder. If a third-party add-in, Outlook rule, or send delay moves or alters the email in this folder, the error may occur.
2. Solution
To resolve the issue, save your email and restart your computer.
If the problem continues, repair Office programs or reinstall/update Microsoft .NET Framework via Windows Update or manually.
If the error persists, ask an IT Administrator to check if these Mail Manager processes are running in Task Manager; if not, they may need to whitelist critical Mail Manager processes. These should always run when Outlook is open:
- MailManager.Startup.exe
- MailManager.BackgroundIndexer.exe
- Mail Manager.Filer.Core.exe
