Local Admin permissions may be required.
In rare situations, users have reported issues with video driver errors and crashes when using Mail Manager. This article details what the issue is and how to resolve it.
1. Issue
When sending a message, as the filing prompt is about to appear, the system crashes with a graphics driver error or the machine crashes with a Blue Screen of Death (BSoD).
This can be caused by certain display settings within Outlook and Windows.
(Note that another separate cause of a similar symptom is also documented here: Shared Calendar unusable with Mail Manager)
2. Solution
There are two settings you can change to prevent the issue from occurring.
2.1. Disabling hardware acceleration
To disable hardware acceleration:
- Open Display Settings.
- Choose Optimize for compatibility (application restart required).
- Restart Outlook.
Not seeing the option?
In older versions of the app, you need to access Options via the File menu in order to find the setting.
2.2. Enabling high performance
To enable high performance for Outlook:
- Go to Windows Settings.
- Open Graphics settings.
- Browse for Outlook.exe.
- Click Add.
You will be brought back to the app list. - Select Options.

- Choose High performance.
If you see two different options, select the GPU with better performance. - Click Save.
