Using the Auto Discovery performance checker
Who is this article for?Mail Manager Users who want to check the health of auto discovery for SharePoint locations they can access.
Access to the Shared Configuration Folder and SharePoint locations is required to use this tool.
This performance checker lets users monitor delays in auto discovery and slow detection of new locations in real-time within their current environment. It also helps identify risks in specific configurations.
1. Understanding the tool
- To open the Performance Checker, navigate to the Mail Manager ribbon and select Status.
- Navigate to Diagnostics.
- Select the button called Check Performance.
- This will open the Auto Discovery performance checker for SharePoint
- Mail Manager will load the AutoDiscoverySharePoint.txt file from the Mail Manager Config folder automatically.
Note: File System auto discovery is not supported for this feature.
2. Using the tool
- Users: Adjust the number of users in the organisation for a more accurate impact assessment of auto discovery.
- Microsoft licenses: Typically the number of purchased licenses, defaulting to 0-1000, which most users keep.
- Start: Begins the calculation by scanning auto discovery patterns, showing results with colour-coded arrows on blocks labelled Not recommended, Poor, OK, Good, and Excellent.
- View Full Report: This will be available to generate once the check is complete
3. The Report
- The report summary shows the overall performance of the queries.
- The detailed auto discovery section breaks down each path and reveals if outliers affect the average.
- If it says “No locations discovered”, the user lacks access to that collection, so it’s excluded from the calculation.

The report is located in File Explorer at: %temp%\Mail Manager\AutoDiscovery\SharePoint\Logs\PerformanceCheckerLog.txt
